Beans Kitchen (빈스키친) - Cheongpa-dong

Last Friday night I headed to Beans Kictchen in Cheongpa-dong for dinner. Its near Sookmyung Women's University, just one stop south of Seoul station. The area around Sookmyung University kinda reminds me of a mini Edae, with several cute cafes and boutiques dotted along the road from the subway to the university gates. I read about the restaurant on this Korean vegetarian blog which lists a few veggie friendly spots not yet on happy cow.

They specialize in bean 'meat' sourced from 100% Korean soybeans, serving a variety of dishes and drinks. Most dishes are vegan, whilst their burger and burrito can be made vegan if you request it without cheese. The menu is listed on their naver site here, google translate will suffice if you don't know enough Korean.

Its a cute and cozy little cafe, and although they only have a few tables all meals can be served as takeaway. They also seem to have some sort of lunch box program. The restaurant has a quite a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere, a nice place to have dinner at the end of a busy week. Although it probably gets a lot busier during lunch time with all the nearby university students.

They have some magazines spread out on their high table which they've been featured in, like this Japanese magazine.

I ordered the soy meat and vegetables with sweet and sour sauce, which came with a little salad, tea and some fruit in the set meal option for 7500 won. I quite enjoyed this dish, it came with carrots, onion and fried eggplant and soy bean pieces covered in a tasty but not over powering sauce. The salad was simple but pleasant, made up of ice berg lettuce, tomato and almond flakes topped with a dressing similar to the sweet and sour sauce. I'm not sure of the type of the tea, but it was something quite sweet and delicious though! Embarrassingly too I don't know what the fruit was lol, but it was nice as well~ do you have any idea?

Although satisfying, the meal wasn't quite big enough to fill me up as I tend to have a large appetite for dinner. Next time I might try the burger minus the cheese.

It's located just off the main street to Sookmyung University, so look out for the Beans Kitchen Banner to the left side of the road from the subway. The meal was yummy and reasonably priced so I recommend you give it a try, especially as its 100% vegetarian and conveniently located in the centre of Seoul.

Earlier in the evening I spent some time exploring the area and taking some photos with my crappy point and shoot. I stumbled upon Hyochang Park which isn't too far east of Beans Kitchen.

They had several memorials around the park, such as some dedicated to martyrs of Korea's independence against the Japanese imperialists.

I really ought to buy a DSLR, my camera and phone just can't give any justice to what i'm trying to capture. I just find it hard to spend so much money on one item...

The park was so beautiful with all the Autumn leaves fallen to the ground. I've said it once and i'll say it again, Autumn is the best time in Korea!
